Phoebe – 3 year old female Greyhound

Let us introduce you to our little black beauty Phoebe, who is now seeking her forever home. Phoebe is 3 years old and 27″ to the shoulder. Phoebe has never been exposed to the trauma of the racing industry as she was bought when still a puppy as a pet. She really is such a pretty girl with a little white bib and white back toes which look as if she has dipped them in a can of white paint. If you’re looking for a snuggling companion on the settee this could well be the lady you’re looking for!

Phoebe is a real sweetie but needs a family who will be dedicated to building her confidence up and allowing her to blossom to her full potential. She can be nervous of new people and strange dogs but relaxes once she understands they mean her no harm. She is starting to have adorable little bouts of playfulness and her foster Mum says that she has come a long way even in the short time she has had her so all she needs now is a home to unpack her little selection of toys once and for all. Phoebe is very good in the home and will ask to go to the toilet by whining. She does however like a little counter surf occasionally if there is something particularly tasty and tempting left out!! She likes to be close to you whilst she sleeps so ideally we need a family who are happy for her to sleep on her bed next to them, but she is a good girl and sleeps through the night with no interruptions. Phoebe can find visitors quite worrying so it’s best that visitors are quiet and gentle around this little girl and perhaps give some tasty treats as she starts to feel braver.

Phoebe can find new dogs a little bit scary and this will sometimes manifest in her barking at them so treats in the pocket and calm, reward training will be of huge benefit to this lovely girl although her foster Mum has said that this is already improving. She has met a rotund Jack Russell and was very good with him. Phoebe does enjoy her walks and walks to heel and on the lead beautifully. She also loves car rides. At present she is having two walks of half an hour a day and garden play. A couple of times a week Phoebe loves to stretch her legs off lead in an enclosed paddock away from public roads and livestock and she seems happy with this exercise but would also enjoy longer walks.

In general Greyhounds are calm, mannerly dogs that are well used to being handled. They can fit very well in to a wide range of different lifestyles and usually adjust to the home life very quickly. Their soft, easy going nature often makes them ideal to live in a family environment, while their love of lazing around and low exercise requirements can make them perfect for the retired. Greyhounds also don’t shed as much as other more popular dog breeds and this can make them suitable to live with allergy sufferers. We feel Phoebe would be happy in a very calm and quiet household (preferably older teenagers who know how to behave around nervous dogs) with perhaps one other very calm canine friend or with a family that won’t leave her for any long periods of time as she needs company to build her confidence and show her the ropes. Please be aware that we do not home dogs to families with children under 8 years of age. She can be homed anywhere in the UK provided we have a home checker available, but please note that you will be required to travel to Norfolk to meet and collect her.

Phoebe is currently in a foster home in Norfolk. Phoebe is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, deflead and wormed and a home check will be required as part of the adoption procedure.

Kerry Greyhounds UK

Kerry Greyhounds UK operates through a network of volunteers to rehome greyhounds and lurchers. The majority of our dogs are from Ireland. We are dedicated to finding the very best forever homes and provide ongoing support and encouragement to all of our placement families and hounds.

We neuter, vaccinate and microchip each dog and give them a veterinary check before they are rehomed. We rely on public donations to enable us to carry out our work and refuse, on principle, any financial assistance from the greyhound racing industry.

If you have an adoption enquiry, please either email us at bronwen@kerrygreyhounds.co.uk, or telephone Bronwen on 075 000 62648.
