Poppy is a 6 year old female Miniature Pinscher cross Chihuahua. She has come into rescue due to unpredictability when in the company of children and cautiousness with unknown adults. She has nipped ankles and calves of Male adults when on the move and attempted to bite young children in confined spaces. Her owners had young and a busy household with guests visiting often. They did not feel this was the correct environment for Poppy and heartbreakingly handed her over to our care to find her a more suitable home.
Poppy’s family have done a really great job with her. She has had a great deal of love and socialisation and in many ways is the perfect dog other than being timid with visitors to the home and not being comfortable around children. For hers and others own safety we will not be accepting applications with visiting or resident children under the age of 13 years. Poppy likes other dogs and we feel she would do well in a home with another social canine companion to learn from. She will need owners who are consistent, understanding and willing to use redirection tactics in order to stop her from nipping at Male visitors heels. She doesn’t better with females.
Poppy does scent mark initially upon entering a home but is non destructive and happy to be left for reasonable durations of time. Being a min pin cross Chihuahua Poppy is sweet and affectionate with her owners and people she knows but due to her size is weary of men she doesn’t know. She needs a home with people who understand the breeds and how to deal with fear aggression using redirection tactics. The rescue is happy to advise and offer continued ongoing support for life with his behavioral problems. We know in the right home Poppy would be a fantastic addition to a family and welcome the correct applicants to apply for her. In all honestly she is incredibly easy if you can safely manage her meeting guests and take adequate measures to keep everyone safe around children. She is generally very social with people but may get scared when they stand to leave.
Poppy is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped and will be subject to a home check and adoption donation.
