Rene is a lovely fawn Saluki cross Whippet, Lurcher who is approximately 10 years young and 22″ to the shoulder. This little girl really will make a happy and very loving companion for someone. Rene is a really sweet little girl who could be happy as an only dog in the right home. She is a very friendly, pretty and happy girl who would make a fab sofa companion for cuddles! Rene enjoys meeting people and seems to love everyone she meets and would prefer to sleep on her new family’s bed and settee so please bear this in mind when applying for her, she will do as you ask but would prefer to snuggle with you! Rene is a very good girl in the home, she is totally clean, a very good girl during the night and can be left for a few hours with no problems. She is also very receptive to basic training and knows that no means ‘no’. She will counter-surf if you leave something yummy on the side and you’re not looking, but again, will get down immediately when caught.
Rene tends to ignore other dogs in the home unless they are ‘in her face’ which she really doesn’t like but she shows no sign of toy, food or bed aggression. Whilst out on walks however she does have a tendency to lunge and pull until the dog is out of sight. Rene’s foster Mum feels that she would benefit from socialisation classes to help with this and our behaviourist is on hand to give advice and support. She can feel threatened by other dogs so she will need a ongoing support with this and careful introductions with other dogs. It may also help her if her new owner is always ‘on the ball’ when out and about so you can avoid other dogs that may upset her.
Rene loves to be out and about and is very good in the car. We feel that she wasn’t walked much in the past year and so she can pull on the lead quite strongly at times although since being walked separately from Blue she has been much calmer. Again, lead training would be of great benefit and perhaps to put her in a non-pull harness. She will need a minimum of 2 x 30 minute walks a day but is currently doing much longer with her foster family and thriving on the extra exercise. Rene may be able to go off lead if further socialised and trained by an experienced new owner.
We feel Rene could be very happy as an only dog in the right family and will need a family who are happy to build her confidence and give ongoing lead training and help her to improve her doggy manners. A gentle canine companion who doesn’t get excited or take any notice of Rene’s ‘lunging’ would also be fine. Please be aware though that we do not home dogs to families with children under 8 years of age. She can be homed anywhere in the UK provided we have a home checker available, but please note that you will be required to travel to Hertfordshire to meet and collect her. Rene is currently in a foster home in Hertfordshire.
Rene is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, deflead and wormed and a home check will be required as part of the adoption procedure.
