Samouk

He previously did not appear to be at all used to human contact. His confidence however has improved whilst being at The Mayhew. His new guardian will need to continue his socialisation and take him to training classes. He has only recently learnt how to walk on a lead and collar, is starting to enjoy his toys and is now toilet trained.

Everything is new to this sweet-natured dog, and he will need to be gently coaxed out of his shell. Even after intensive socialization, it seems probable he will always be timid of strangers. We do not know how he copes with being left alone. He will need one to two hours of off-lead exercise every day, initially on a 100ft training line until his confidence improves.

Owing to his nervousness, any young people in his new home should be sixteen years old and upwards. He is good with other dogs that he knows. He would happily live with a confident and well-behaved, female dog.

Samouk is looking for a loving new home with someone who has owned medium-to-large breed dogs before and who will have the patience and understanding, and the great deal of time, needed, to dedicate to training and socializing this timid soul and giving him a new, secure start in life. His new guardians will be taking on a fifteen-year commitment, which must not be taken lightly.
