Suzie is a two year old female Terrier Cross. She was brought over from China by another rescuer. She had been caught in a snare trap and lost the use of one of her legs. Suzie is very prone to stress and takes a while to adapt to change and she wasn’t managing in the foster home she was placed in and they couldn’t cope with her reaction to the changes.
Suzie has been with us a few months now. She’s had the useless limb removed and we’ve learnt to understand her needs and how to help her through necessary changes. Her stress levels still escalate and she gets a high temperature in situations that alarm her.
We think that she’s probably been through more than just the snare trap experience, even her response to travelling in a car is quite pitiful and we very much wonder what goes through her head and where she thinks she’s being taken.
We can’t erase her past or filter her memories but we can find her a lovely new home where her fears are understood and she can be comforted through them and allowed the time to adjust.
Suzie likes the company of other dogs and could live with a confident cat. She must live with another dog. When she goes to her new home she will take a few days to get used to new people and will be very aloof for a few days, she will also communicate that she’s worried by being a little growley.
If left alone by day four or five she will show her true self and become playful, fun and affectionate. She obviously has her reasons to distrust new people and sometimes it’s better not to know what those reasons are.
Suzy is a very charismatic dog when she gets to know you and relaxes. It may take a few days for her new family to see that version of her but the wait is very much worthwhile. Suzie fostered Poringland Norfolk
