Theo is a medium-sized eight to nine year old male Cross-Breed. He came into our care around a year ago, he was a very scared and traumatised dog who came from the Botosani public shelter in Romania where he had been for around five or six years. Theo fostered Norwich Norfolk.
For the first few months Theo did not make it easy for us to befriend him and was terrified of being touched. A corner was turned when we eventually got him lead trained as he really started to enjoy his walks and seemed to understand that he needed to connect with us to be able to go. He stopped snapping when touched and allowed his lead to be put on and taken off without issue but still moved away when you actually stroked him.
These days he will tolerate very brief strokes or grooming but still will move away after just a few seconds if he is given the option to. Maybe this is as good as it gets for Theo and maybe we need to find someone with kindness in their heart to meet all of Theos needs without really getting a lot of affection back.
The affection for those he knows is there but it’s subtle. He will follow me from room to room and want to be in the same place I am. He will stay with me on walks when I drop his lead and worries if I go out of sight. He definitely wants to be around humans but in some place in the history of his mind being physically touched by humans still presents fear to him and only time will tell if he will ever fully let this guard down.
Theo gets on well with the other dogs in his foster home but doesn’t always want them to lie with him depending on what mood he’s in. He could live just as happily without other dogs. His main loves in life are food and walks and he has previously lived happily with a cat.
All dogs are vaccinated, microchipped and neutered (unless the dog is too young to be neutered). If you are interested please message or call between 9am to 5pm Mon – Fri 9am to 4pm Sat.
