Timmy is a 7 year old male Chihuahua. He has come into rescue due to the tragic death of his owner and Paramedics noted unpredictability when in the company of unknown adults. He has nipped the ankles and calves of adults when the property was attended and attempted to bite when being picked up. We appreciate the circumstances may have played a big part in Timmy’s behavior but have found him initially very scared of new people and early handling. Timmy’s original owner has done a really great job with him. He has had a great deal of love and socialisation and in many ways is the perfect dog other than being timid with visitors to the home and not being comfortable around new people. For his and others own safety we will not be accepting applications with visiting or resident children under the age of 13 years.
Timmy likes other dogs and we feel he would do well in a home with another social canine companion to learn from. He will need owners who are consistent, understanding and willing to use redirection tactics in order to stop him from nipping at visitors heels. Timmy is housebroken and is non destructive and happy to be left for reasonable durations of time. Timmy has a grade 3 heart murmur but this does not show any clinical signs or require any treatment. He recently sailed through an anesthetic without problem however this will have to be monitored yearly when he goes for his boosters.
Being a Chihuahua Timmy is sweet and affectionate with his owners and people he knows but due to his size is weary of men he doesn’t know. He needs a home with people who understand the breed and how to deal with fear aggression using redirection tactics. The rescue is happy to advise and offer continued ongoing support for life with his behavioral problems. We know in the right home Timmy would be a fantastic addition to a family and welcome the correct applicants to apply for him. In all honestly he is incredibly easy and comes around very fast. If you can safely manage his meeting guests and take adequate measures to keep everyone safe around children. He is generally very social with people when he gets to know them but may get scared when they stand to leave.
Timmy is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. Please send us a message to enquire about our adoption process. We require an APPLICATION and HOMECHECK BEFORE we can arrange for applicants to meet Timmy on an APPOINTMENT ONLY basis. Minimum adoption donation applied.
