Dash is a 4 year old male Greyhound Cross. Dash is a four year old greyhound cross. Dash has come to us from a shelter in Romania to find a new home and a fresh start in life. I offered to take Dash when I saw a video of him posted on Facebook by his carer. He was in his muddy, barren, depressing pen looking quite unhappy but when his carer spoke to him he danced around that pen like she had just gifted him the stars and the moon. I just felt so touched by how little it took to make him happy and wanted to give him much much more. So here he is in the UK and it’s our job to find him a forever home.

Dash has clearly had a scary time of life before he was rescued and this still shows in his fear of new things. He is a very curious boy though and this is helping him to become braver by the day. He loves his walks and is happiest going to places he is familiar with. He is great off the lead and loves to run ( he’s not called Dash for nothing! ). He has also developed a fondness for going in the river and splashing about and sticking his nose in the water. Dash can still be fearful in busy places, this is something we continue to work on, he is never aggressive, he just tries to avoid things he finds scary and can be strong on the lead at these times. We tend to go into town and just sit and people watch at the moment, and he is getting more confident with each trip.

Dash is really affectionate with people he knows and loves to snuggle up next to you on the sofa and give you a gentle kiss. He is quiet at night, clean in the house and can be left for a few hours with no issues. The key to winning this boy’s heart is through walks and food- whoever is supplying him with these things will become his new best friend, so ideally all members of his new household would be involved in these things to help him bond with the whole family. He would really benefit from having another confident dog to live with, he has mixed beautifully with dogs of all shapes and sizes in his foster home. In typical Greyhound fashion he does like to chase small furries, so a home without these would be best.

Dash has been great with my children, aged 9 and 7, they know to give him space and to let him approach them, and he is very fond of them. Dash needs a family who will help him continue to widen his horizons at his own pace, while offering him a steady routine and familiarity so that he feels safe. It really is the most rewarding thing ever to help a dog like Dash to experience all the good things life has to offer.
