Edgar is an 8 year old little Jack Russell. He was surrendered into a Welsh pound where he sat for 5 weeks waiting for a rescue place. We saw him and said, “yes please†and unbelievably just saved him as the pound staff had given up hope. So when he came to us his spirit was low and he went down with a bubbly chest. We were concerned he had given up the will…when we got a foster place for a week and suddenly he was on the up and certainly wasn’t looking back.

So what did we learn about little Edgar…well he is quite a character. Edgar is quiet through the day and comes alive at night, perhaps he is used to being left during the day. He likes to ‘kill’ his toys; likes to make himself at home on furniture and tables; loves to tip the kitchen bin over and see if there is any scrap worth having. He doesn’t go upstairs and sleeps happily at night in the kitchen. He walks close to his ‘owner’ outside but quite slow…was resistant to walks initially as though this hadn’t been part of his day. Warmed to 3 walks a day. Only goes in the garden to do his business and comes straight back unless you are out there with him. He indicates to go to the loo by standing by the front door and giving you ‘the look’.
He looks to your hand a great deal as if it is the ‘treat bearer’. He isn’t licky, licky but you will get gentle licks and the opportunity provided early on in your relationship to rub his belly for free. He enjoys his food and is very wilful if he has to take tablets which takes a lot of cunning on behalf of the tablet giver to ensure consumption. Within the kitchen, when he wasn’t given attention, he made a sharp growling gesture whilst standing his ground; almost a protest at not getting attention or a particular treat which might have been part of his expectations. However you can negotiate with him to come off tables and can out-wit him to give up items by offering something far more interesting. His hearing is good as is his eyesight. He has been neutered for sometime and we have just given him a full dental…so he is now smiling and ready to move into a new home…
