Elder is a large 1 year old male Collie cross Labrador. He is weighs 30kg and is likely to reach 40kg plus once fully mature so please consider this. He is a challenging adolescent and expresses his frustration through behaviours such as chewing (anything he can find including furniture, fixtures and fittings), resource guarding and struggling to remain calm and settle at times.

This will need careful management and compassionate understanding to meet this behaviour with a confident, calm manner allowing him to express himself where safe to do so whilst providing plenty of enrichment and appropriate learning opportunities.

Elder enjoys walking with other dogs however he needs to be the ONLY DOG IN THE HOME as struggles to share affection and home space. He needs an ADULT ONLY home and could not live with cats. Can be vocal New guardians will need experience with positive reinforcement training and an adequate sized garden in a rural setting. Will also require multiple meets with staff to go through training and to check understanding of what Elder needs and how to set him up for success. New adopters must also live close to the centre in East Sussex to stay local for support as settles into his new home.

Elder has really struggled behaviourally with the adolescent phase and is also experiencing a physical growth spurt, for which he is under vet care to keep him comfortable as his sore joints can influence his behaviour negatively. He is a fun loving, smart, delinquent and lovable clown and with continued correct management and care should flourish into a well-adjusted adult.
