Gary – 18-24 month old male Staffordshire Bull Terrier

Gary has been out for a day in a home environment for more assessment. He is proving to be a real star, a potential fab family pet. He is obviously used to living in a home and is totally unfazed by all the activity. Like most staffies he is pretty bombproof and would love to do agility or tracking. If people only realized how misunderstood this breed is they would be queueing up for Gary and his friends facing being killed for want of good homes. They really are little crackers

This is part of his report:

“Gary traveled beautifully in the car, calm and well behaved. The short journey was praised with a walk – met 2 dogs with happy curiosity, stood well behaved and easily distracted for sniffs so no negative focus or obsessive to meet & greet. Came across 2 cats which he’d very much like to chase, but again easily distracted and moved on. Once home, excellent respectful entrance into the house and calm too. My dog (12 years old GSD cross) stayed separate in the conservatory room and Gary looked, sniffed about, and wasn’t bothered really; happy to have new things to explore.

A calm approach across the board, he didn’t touch the low level bin (with lid slightly off) or raid the dog cupboard (with treats – when opened, very respectful). I used dried Hills Kibble for clicker training and subtly reinforced to reassure throughout. Gary went upstairs, but came down when called and didn’t try to scent/mark. He took himself off into the crate and didn’t follow me everywhere all the time. He didn’t return to check on Matty either. Not fazed by hoovers, sweeper, broom etc, and quite happy to let me move around. No anxiety when I left the room and shut stair gate for 2 min to go upstairs.

This boy is a shining diamond and will be an easy family addition and to house train, he was an absolute pleasure to have here, amazingly loving with kisses and cuddles and loves to sit on your knee when sat on the floor, wonderful well behaved company.”

Potential adopters will have thorough home checks before and after homing and will need to give references to ensure Gary goes to caring and responsible owners. Please contact the rescue for more details.
