Lia (ref 162d) is a very lovely female Staffordshire Bull Terrier cross Whippet aged 5 years old. She was brought to Derby RSPCA Centre because her last owner moved into rented accommodation where no dogs were allowed.

She is a very sweet creature but can seem rather shy and wary when she’s first introduced to strangers, because she no longer has an owner to reassure her and is feeling a little lost. Once she accepts you, you’ll find her much more relaxed and friendly, but she can initially be very hesitant if someone tries to stroke her.

She really does need a loving new home soon, so that she can begin to feel confident and happy once again. She does, however, thoroughly enjoy playing with the animal care staff here - including games of tug - and will also play happily with toys.  Lia is a bright girl who already knows at least 5 commands, possibly more. She is house-trained and is used to travelling in cars.
She would be suitable for a household where any children were aged 10+ and very kind to dogs like Lia who will need time to settle in. She needs to be the only dog in the home, because she is very uncomfortable around other dogs. Being a terrier-hound cross, she would inevitably chase after cats and rabbits, so she needs to live somewhere where there aren’t any to chase.
She will of course need owners who are active people who can provide her with plenty of regular walks, fun and games. Lia is a genuinely sweet-natured dog who just needs the right sort of caring owners to give her all the love and reassurance she needs to turn her back into the happy and relaxed dog she’s meant to be. She really is a very lovely creature indeed and she deserves masses of affection and a cosy new home as soon as possible.
