Moomin is a 1 year old, female Jack Russell Terrier, who was returned to the Mayhew because her owner couldn’t cope with her snappy behaviour. She is a playful soul who is toilet-trained, travels well and is usually responsive to commands. She is fine with other dogs, if a little bossy.

Moomin

Once she knows you, she bonds quickly and strongly and is totally trustworthy, but she can be shy and nervous around strangers at first, especially men. She may have been mistreated by a man in the past. While at The Mayhew, she has shown no aggression and has played happily with children and all types of strangers.

However, whilst on a home stay with one of our volunteers, she snapped at the resident man when he tried to stroke her. Because of her nervousness, care will be needed when introducing her to people for the first time. She sometimes barks at strange men in the park and may run towards them, but never gets close.

Moomin is very affectionate towards people she knows and loves to sit on your lap being stroked all over or groomed. She also loves her toys and food – especially chicken, cheese, potatoes and biscuits.

Moomin is looking for a new home with someone who has owned terriers, preferably nervous ones, before, who will take her to training classes and take a firm, consistent and gentle approach to increasing her confidence while at the same time reminding her of her manners – she likes to think she’s the boss. Her new guardians will be taking on a fourteen-year commitment, which must not be taken lightly.
