This handsome chap is Rigas. What a looker! He is a Grand Bleu de Gascogne and is about 5 or 6 years old. He is a medium size dog, weighing about 25kg. Rigas arrived at the rescue shelter near Athens in Greece in February 2011 with an appalling wound to his front leg – the muscle had literally been cut in two. Fortunately he received the best veterinary care available and after an operation and suitable recovery period there is no indication of the trauma this regal looking chap has been through.

The Bleu de Gascogne is a scenthound so it is likely that Rigas’s “owner†abandoned him to the streets when he was injured while hunting. Rigas has now spent a year in the shelter and it really is his turn to find a home where he can be allowed to be a pet – he’s friendly and playful with other dogs (although he does tend to steer clear of young playful puppies!), loves being fussed and cuddled, and most of all he’d like his new owner to take him for long walks where he can sniff to his heart’s content! Unlike most scenthound breeds, Rigas rarely barks!

Rigas can live with other dogs (in fact, he’d love a girlfriend!), and as he ignores the cats at the shelter he can be home with cats provided careful introductions are made. He has been walked by teenage volunteers at the rescue shelter so will be fine with older children, and could also be homed where there are younger children who are used to living with dogs. He’d like to spend his retirement as a loved pet, and that’s where you come in – he’ll be travelling to the UK in May and is seeking applications from deserving humans who will offer him a forever home.

Rigas is fully vaccinated, micro-chipped and neutered. When he arrives in the UK his whole world will change so we expect it may take a little while for him to settle. When he does, he will be a most loving and appreciative companion. If you think you can offer Rigas the kind of life he deserves we’d love to hear from you.
