Stan is a 2 year old Greyhound male who recently made his way into our care from Warrington Animal Welfare so he could be fully assessed in a foster home. Stan is a nervous lad who will need a calm home environment with people around all or most of the time to start with and the company preferably of an older more confident female companion.

Although Stan needs a gentle owner he also needs an experienced owner, someone who isn’t going to overly fuss Stan and reassure him at times when his nerves get the better of him. It was reported that on meeting strange people Stan would at times reduce to urinating himself in fear but this is something we haven’t seen. The only time that he has wee’d in fear in the two weeks he has been in foster care is on the first night whilst out with his carer and her dogs when a loud firework was thrown close to them.

Stan is clean in the house overnight and is fine left with the company of another dog but will wee if left too long so needs a home where he will not be left for more than two hours whilst he continues to get the hang of things.

Stan has spent alot of time at the local dog park and has integrated fabulously with all the dogs both big and small, he hasn’t been afraid of interacting and approaching strangers as long as they are not to full on with him and allow him to approach them in their own time.

Stan needs to be walked on a well fitted collar as occasionally loud noises do cause him fear and would benefit with continued de-sensitisation work because of the end of year firework season we have brought a cd and have already started to work with this.

Although Stan loves children and enjoys their company we wouldn’t like to place him in a home with young children because of the noise bang issues that may cause problems with his settling. Older dog sensible child families will be considered. Stan also doesn’t like raised voices so a very stable home is a MUST.

Stan is such a handsome lad and is already making huge strides, for people with patience and love this dog is going to be a dream.

Greyhound Gap
Greyhound Gap

Greyhound Gap is a small independent charity set up to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome greyhounds and lurchers who find themselves in a ‘put to sleep’ situation in UK pounds. Funded almost entirely by donations, we rehome around 150 dogs each year. We can have around 40-50 dogs at any one time in our kennels based in Kidsgrove, Stoke on Trent and a further 30-40 in foster homes. Greyhound Gap operates on a national basis so our dogs can be homed throughout the UK subject to a suitable home visit being carried out.

If you are interested in adopting a dog from Greyhound Gap, we would ask that in the first instance you could take a few moments to complete our pre-adoption questionnaire if you have not already done so: http://www.greyhoundgap.org.uk/our-dogs/pre-adoption-questionnaire
